Visiting and travelling NYC

NYC, New York City… Yes, they say if you survive living in New York, then you will survive anywhere else…

This year, I got brave. I decided to leave behind my family in KS and live in NYC; saying I was scared to death is an understatement; but this momma got brave and I can say indeed, living in New York City changed my life FOREVER and I will never ever forget this experience.

I left in September 12,2014 and when I landed in New York International airport, I was expecting some mob or violence going on but you know what, there was none. I had an impression that New York is a violent place wherein people just kill each other;  you know, just like in the movies, but really, it is just the same as any other place in the USA, the airport was so peaceful as can be. When I explored NYC for the first time, it was so beautiful…the architecture, the museum, the mixture of things to do and the people… New Yorkers are actually nice people. I remember how  this guy taught me how to us the MTA card, this lady who showed me the easiest way to go to my nearest train station, and the bus driver who refunded my fare when I made a mistake of hopping in the wrong bus…There are so many “angels” in New York, really… Sure, they look like they are in a hurry, but in my experience nobody played games with me when I asked for help.

I learn so much in my stay here… I became strong emotionally. Since people are always in a rush to do their business, they savor each opportunity  to connect with people when an opportunity presents itself. They’ll  have the most hearty laugh and the most animated conversation…Breakfast trucks are everywhere and people connect most during this time… these observations and encounters made me a mature and a stronger person. I am so grateful that I took a leap of faith…Indeed, doing the thing you are scared the most are the one that will make you stronger…( see my post here about NYC transfer)

So, I went riding on the NYC subway. I made sure that I was two weeks early before school starts so that I will not get lost in the subway station. I learned to buy the New York subway card using cash or credit card and I learned that it is a treat when someone give up their seat for you because it will only happen .00002 % out of 100 % . Chivalry is not a trait inside the train and  I realized that quickly. I got used on balancing myself near the train’s doorway…

I also realized that in order to see all the beautiful landmarks in NYC, you just have to ride the 6th train going downtown New York and you can use your google maps from there… Also, if you get lost in New York, just ask – people are not snotty at all New Yorkers are really nice people…I love NYC and I hope your visit here will change your life forever just like it did to me…Oh, lastly, check Pinterest as to what to do in NYC. It helped me explore it with a purpose.
